Why Do I Love Essential Oils So Much?
My Father is a Dental Surgeon, and as a young girl, he always taught me to use homoeopathy or essential oils as a first port of call, rather than reaching for medicine.
We used Arnica for bruises, Bach's Flower Rescue Remedy to ease anxiety and essential oils such as Lavender for a better night's sleep, ylang-ylang in my bath and eucalyptus for steam inhalations and tea tree oil for spots etc.
As a teenager, I think I put every chemical under the sun on my body & hair, with little regard for what I was using!
In my 20's, as a new mother, I suddenly became acutely aware of the products I was using on my baby and wanted the purest, organic products.
13 years ago when my first daughter was born, there wasn't actually a great selection of organic, retail products around.
Nowadays, there are a plethora of natural, luxury, organic products available which is fabulous. However, what I didn't realise that things aren't always as they seem.
For instance, I used to find that certain brands of lavender essential oil would give me a headache.
I have since found out that all brands are not created equal; some add perfumes and synthetics and fillers, which to me defeats, the whole purpose of going down the alternative route?
It was time for me to be mindful about what I was willing to use on my family.
I consciously started researching different brands looking specifically at;
- The standards of purity & potency?
- Are the oils grown in indigenous regions or on big farms in Utah?
- Are they free from fillers or artificial ingredients?
- Are they free of contaminants, pesticides or chemical residues?
- Are the oils ethically sourced?
During this research, I came across a study by The Environmental Working Group's who commissioned five laboratories to examine the umbilical cord blood of a selection of newborn babies and found more than 200 chemicals in each newborn. It made me think even harder not only about what in my body, but also what I put ON my body AND what chemicals I use in my home.
I even sourced and imported my own oils from India, but none could come close to one brand, which has made me fall completely in love with essential oils all over again.

How do I use essential Oils?
Aromatic - Essential Oils, when diffused or inhaled, can be very stimulating, calming, or soothing; diffusing essential oils can also cleanse and purify the air.
Topical- Essential Oils can safely be applied for massage or topical therapy. using a carrier oil or massaging lightly into the skin can increase absorption.
Internal - Certain essential oils have a rich culinary history and can be used as dietary supplements for targeted wellness. Use essential oils in recipes, add to drinks, or put in a a veggie cap. I put two drops of Copaiba (the emotions oil) under my tongue morning and night to help keep me balanced.
